Man Is The Media.
Virtual magazines for a virtual world
There are people who claim they live in Second Life. Now there are magazines about Second Life too.
Watching the document inflow on Issuu, I randomly came across two publishers of such magazines. One is called Second Style and it’s about fashion in SL and is edited by ‘Celebrity Trollop’ (gotta love that name).
What do people wear, when they shouldn’t care about personal inhibition or physique? Well, apart from obviously clueless aliens and cyberpunks, SL people wear close to nothing, judging from this authoritative source. And why wouldn’t they – sex sells and in SL you should never worry about getting cold either. I’ve embedded an example below:
The other magazine is called Sexy Second and has a slightly naughtier approach, as you can imagine. Example below (tres sexy, indeed). One thing I especially like, is that the magazines have advertisers from SL businesses, indicating that the virtual micro-economy has come full circle. Now all we need is a virtual print media depression there to match the real world.
A favorite quote from p. 15:
“Do you dream about Second Life?”
“Not so much anymore.”
If anyone knows more about this phenomenon, comments are open.
